DUNCAN, S.C. (WSPA) – An Upstate alumnus is hosting his annual football camp this weekend to give back to his community.

Rahjai Harris is a 2020 graduate of James F. Byrnes High School. He currently plays as a running back at East Carolina University.

For the past three years, Harris has hosted his annual football camp at Byrnes as a way to give back to his community and benefit those who have childhood cancer.

“I do my camp originally for childhood cancer. I had a little cousin pass away from cancer back in 2021,” Harris said.

“I also have a friend whose brother beat cancer so that’s one of the big reasons. Another reason is to just reach the kids and let them know that sports can change your life.”

The camp will be held on May 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bynres Freshman Academy for children between the ages of 8-17. The camp is free to all participants to teach them the fundamental skills of football and to just have fun.

While at the camp, football is not the only thing being taught. “I try to teach the kids respect, leadership and other traits to keep them focused for the future,” Harris said.

Harris said there are many football activities but there are also other activities that help the kids open up in different ways.

Any donations received will be donated directly to the Bi-Lo Charities Children Center.
