Charges against a Walstonburg man arrested in an April 15 shooting death on Third Street in west Greenville include murder and accessory after the fact, according to jail records.

Zy’quan Malik Johnson, 21, 93 Jamal Sarsour St., was arrested in Rocky Mount the next night with the assistance of the Rocky Mount Police Department, the Greenville Police Department said.

He was detained in the Edgecombe County Jail and later booked into the Pitt County Detention Center under a $1.5 million bond under the charges of murder and accessory after the fact of murder.

Johnson is charged in the death of Jahsijah Jahson, 21, of Grimesland, who was shot outside a home in the 1000 block of West Third Street near White Street about 4:40 p.m.

Officers responded to a shots fired call in the area and discovered Jahson suffering a gunshot wound. He died at the scene, police said.

A spokeswoman for the Greenville department said an investigation indicates Jahson often stayed in Greenville. His relationship to the suspect had not been determined.

The investigation is ongoing. Police said the shooting appears to have been a targeted incident.

The department asked that anyone with information call Pitt-Greenville Crime Stoppers at 758-7777.
