    Car hits bicyclist on South Elm-Eugene Street in Greensboro; second crash reported nearby on I-40

    GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Two separate but nearby crashes prompted crews to shut down all lanes of South Elm-Eugene Street and Interstate 40 on Sunday.

    The crash on South Elm-Eugene Street involved a car striking a bicyclist, according to Guilford County EMS. The bicyclist was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. All lanes of South Elm-Eugene Street near Industrial Avenue were closed because of a car crash, according to the Greensboro Police Department.

    Also, Interstate 40 shut down at the South Elm-Eugene Street exit due to a separate nearby crash, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

    Traffic maps showed heavy congestion on I-40 as a result of the closure.

    I-40 reopened at around 3 p.m.
