    Suspect arrested, accused of killing man in I-73 hit-and-run in Guilford County

    GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A suspect has been arrested after a hit-and-run on Interstate 73 led to a man’s death, according to a State Highway Patrol news release.

    Howard Bradford Melendez, 33, of Asheboro, is charged with felony hit-and-run. Tropers was arrested on Tuesday. He received a $15,000 secured bond.

    At 7:26 a.m. on April 17, troopers responded to the report of a crash on I-73 South near West Steeple Chase Road in Guilford County.

    According to Highway Patrol, Clyde Strickland, 55, of Raeford, was walking south on I-73 when he was hit by a vehicle going south. The suspect vehicle left the scene, and emergency crews took Strickland to the hospital where he later died .

    Investigators were searching for and ultimately found the white 2015-2021 Audi A3 passenger car that they believed was involved. Troopers said the vehicle would be missing the driver’s side mirror and would have damage to the driver’s side headlamp and driver’s side front bumper.
