GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s that time of the year where thousands of college students are graduating and looking for jobs and the Franklin Hampshire Career Center hosted a job fair to help out some of those students on Wednesday.

The job fair at Greenfield Community College was solely for positions in health care, which is the industry in western Massachusetts with the largest current labor shortage. According to the state’s Labor and Workforce Development Office, as of the beginning of this year the health care sector had nearly 50,000 job openings here in Massachusetts.

Dozens of students had the chance to practice networking, meet local employers, and potentially even get hired on the spot.

22News spoke with Melanie Ames Zamojski, the Dean of the Nursing Department at GCC, about why they try to host a job fair every year, “We try to do this every year, it gets the students better accessibility to all of the people who are looking to hire.”

Over 20 local organizations were in attendance with booths, including Cooley Dickinson Health Care, Valley Medical Group, and VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System.
