    PREP ROUNDUP: Halley Pitches North Greene To Tourney Win

    BLUFF CITY — Aidan Halley pitched a complete game and the North Greene Huskies backed him with error-free defense in a 5-2 win over Unaka in the first round of the District 1-A baseball tournament on Thursday at Sullivan East High School.

    In his seven innings, Halley gave up six hits, walked one and struck out seven. Both Unaka runs were earned. Halley threw 86 pitches, 57 for strikes.

    North Greene’s Don Stansfield went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Jake Duffy had a triple and two RBI, Adam Weir and Owen Pierce each had a hit and an RBI, and Halley had a hit.

    SOFTBALL North Greene 22 Cloudland 4ROAN MOUNTAIN — The North Greene Lady Huskies rolled past the Cloudland Lady Highlanders on Thursday to clinch the District 1-A regular season title and the top seed in the district tournament.

    North Greene (10-8) will open the district tournament against University High at 5 p.m. Monday at Unaka High School.

    North Greene’s lopsided win over Cloudland avenges a 3-1 loss to the Lady Highlanders at home on April 1.

    North Greene cranked out 23 hits. Hannah Brooks went 4-for-6 with a double, a home run and six RBI; Matti Phillips was 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and three RBI; Heidi Harmon was 4-for-6 with two RBI from the lead-off spot; Haley Bailey was 5-for-5 with a double and an RBI; A Parker was 2-for-6 with a double, a triple and three RBI; K Marshall was 2-for-4 with an RBI; D Fillers had a hit and two RBI; and Loren Blevins and J Marr each had a hit.

    Brooks went the distance in the circle. In seven innings, she gave up six hits, walked none and struck out eight. Two of Cloudland’s four runs were earned.

    Unaka 12 West Greene 4

    ELIZABETHTON — West Greene dropped to 7-14 with the loss on Thursday.

    West Greene’s Hayley Arnold went 2-for-3 with two RBI, Alexis Cutshall had a hit and two RBI, and Morgan Brown, Alissa Lawson and Aubree Everett each had a hit.

    West Greene will host Happy Valley in the District 1-2A tournament at 5 p.m. Monday.

    GRAY — Chuckey-Doak improved to 9-5-2 with the regular season ending win on Thursday.

    Pablo Dimas scored the first goal in the first minute to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. At minute 18, Jesus Rojas scored, assisted by Dominic Hahnlen, and Marco Rojas scored two minutes later to make it 3-0.

    Daniel Boone scored a goal to make it 3-1 at halftime.

    Chuckey-Doak’s Tyler Morrison scored with two minutes left to make it 4-1.
