North Greene senior Jason Britton, Chuckey-Doak senior Christian Derry, South Greene senior Cooper Kelley and Greeneville sophomore Trey Thompson have been named all-state in boys basketball by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.

A Class A all-state selection, Britton led North Greene to the state tournament, averaging 29.3 points while shooting 36.5 percent from 3-point range and pulling down 6.4 rebounds per game.

In December, Britton passed former Greeneville star Ja’Kobi Gillespie for most points among Greene County boys. In January, he became the all-time leading scorer in North Greene history, overtaking Jennifer Weems. In early February, he passed University High’s Kaleb Meredith to become District 1-A’s all-time leading scorer and later that same month he passed former South Greene Lady Rebel and current Chuckey-Doak assistant coach Nicole Riddle to become the all-time leading scorer in Greene County history.

With 2,958 career points, Britton is Northeast Tennessee’s all-time leading scorer. Langston’s Kenneth Hamilton set the previous record in 1964 and Tennessee High’s Derrick Hard tied Hamilton in 1979.

A Class 2A all-state selection, Derry – Chuckey-Doak’s 6-foot-8 center – shot 62 percent from inside the arc, and averaged 23 points, 12 rebounds, four blocked shots and 3.5 assists per game.

A Class 2A all-state selection, Kelley led South Greene in scoring at 19.9 points per game. He had the best 3-point percentage among the starters, shooting 43 percent, and was second from 2-point range, shooting 59 percent. He also averaged 4.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.1 steals per game.

A Class 3A selection, the 6-foot-8 Thompson was a Mr. Basketball finalist. He led Greeneville in scoring at 24 points per game while shooting 55 percent from the field, including 47 percent from 3-point range, and rebounds at 9.4 per game. He also had 52 assists, 45 steals and 33 blocks.
