    PREP ROUNDUP: Athletes Shine At Track Meets

    KINGSPORT — The Greeneville track team had one of its best meets yet, with several great individual performances on Tuesday in the Big 11 Conference meet at Dobyns-Bennett. Out of 10 teams, the boys took fourth place and the girls took sixth.

    Science Hill took the top spots in both boys and girls events.

    Olivia McClintock ran the fastest 100 meter dash time, finishing in 12.99. In the 200, McClintock took fifth, running a 27.73.

    All of the girls relay teams took top five placements. The 4x100 took third, with a 52.71, the 4x200 took fourth, with a 1:53.67, the 4x400 took fifth, with a 4:33.31, and the 4x800 took fourth, with an 11:19.53.

    Jacey Goodwin took third in high jump, clearing 4-8. Lorelei Birdwell took fifth in pole vault, clearing 7-0. Jayla Gillespie took fifth in shot put, throwing for 30-10.5.

    Zaydyn Anderson was the top performer for the Greeneville boys, recording 20 total points in his three events. In the 100 meter dash, he took second with a time of 11.13. He took second in the 200 as well, running a 22.08. In long jump, he took third with a 20-11.

    Chase Jablonski took third in the 800, with a 2:07.84. Trey Bailey took third and fifth place in the 3200 and 1600, respectively. He ran his two-mile time in 10:22.94 and his mile time in 4:39.70.

    The boys 4x200 relay team took second with a 1:33.46, the 4x100 took third with a 43.85 and the 4x800 finished fourth with an 8:42.25.

    In triple jump, Darien Humphries took third with a 41-2.5. Jacob Moore took fifth in pole vault, clearing 11-6.

    South Greene

    MORRISTOWN — The South Greene track and field team took a trip on Tuesday to Morristown West. Against six other schools, the Lady Rebels took first place and the Rebels took third. Morristown West took the top spot in the boys events.

    Ava Clark ran the fastest 100 hurdle time, running a 16.66. Right behind her in third, Natalie Freise ran an 18.48. Freise also ran in the 300 hurdles, taking first with a 52.52.

    In the 800, Samantha Birdwell took third, with a 2:50.73, and Emma Cutshaw took fifth in the same event, with a 2:58.67. Abbey Hoxie took fifth in the 100, with a 13.80.

    The girls 4x100, 4x200 and 4x800 relay teams all took first, running times of 53.34, 1:57.13 and 12:37.10, respectively.

    The Lady Rebels took the top three spots in high jump, with Alexa Gabbard taking first, with a 4-6, and Freise and Clark tying for second, with a 4-4. Gabbard also took first in triple jump, with a 32-0.

    Clark took first in long jump, setting a new South Greene High School record in the process. She jumped 15-5.75. Gabbard took second in the same event, with a 15-4, and Freise took fifth, with a 13-8.25.

    In discus, Natalie Foshie took second and Madison Darnell took third with throws of 99-1 and 78-11.5, respectively. In shot put, Darnell took third again, with a 29-0, followed by Foshie in fifth, with a 27-0.

    For the boys, Noah Case ran the third fastest 800 time, with a 2:28.09. Case also took fourth in the 1600, with a 5:34.20.

    Zackriah Duncan took third in the 110 hurdles, with a 20.07.

    The boys 4x100 relay took third, with a 48.21, and the 4x800 took fourth, with a 10:56.18.

    Evan Stills took second in high jump, with a 5-2, and Zeke Rader took second in pole vault, with a 6-6. Nolan Weems took third in pole vault, with a 6-6, as well.

    Stills took fourth in triple jump, followed by Andrew Lacy in fifth, with jumps of 33-7 and 31-1, respectively.

    Heath Norton took first in shot put and fourth in discus, with throws of 44-9 and 107-2, respectively.

    Chuckey-Doak

    Chuckey-Doak had solid performances in their latest track meet on Tuesday at Morristown West High School.

    In the girls 100, Carlene Bishop took second, with a 13.28, and Macy Cox took fourth, with a 13.75. In the 200, Bishop and Cox took second and fourth again. Bishop ran a 28.15 and Cox a 29.10.

    Laney Ricker took second in the 400, with a 1:05.66 and Carmela Smock took first in the 1600, running a 5:43.80. Cora Merrill took third in the 1600, with a 7:03.52.

    Gili Moratalla took fourth in the 100 hurdles, with an 18.92. In the 300 hurdles, Moratalla took third, with a 58.96, followed by Niome Merrill in fourth, with a 1:01.54.

    The girls 4x100 and 4x800 relay teams took second, with times of 54.85 and 13:24.63, respectively.

    Niome Merrill took the top spot in pole vault, clearing 8-0, and Cox took fourth in long jump, with a 14-2.

    In the boys 110 hurdles, Ethan Heimiller took fifth, with a 20.45. In the 300 hurdles, Heimiller took third, with a 50.08.

    Isaiah Treadway took the top spot in long jump, with a 20-8.75. Taking third in long jump was Brock Rush, with an 18-10.

    Brasen Murvin took fifth in discus, with a 104-0, and Isaac Waycaster took fifth in the shot put, with a 39-3.

    West Greene

    West Greene traveled to Morristown West on Tuesday for track and field, with both Buffaloes and Lady Buffaloes taking fifth place out of seven teams.

    Abbey Cox led the Lady Buffs with two first place finishes in discus and shot put. In shot put, she threw for 30-7, and in discus, she threw for 103-11.

    Sophia Taylor took second in the 1600, with a 6:49.36.

    Dakota Cassidy placed fifth in pole vault, clearing 6-0.

    BASEBALL Chuckey-Doak 10 Johnson County 5

    AFTON — The Chuckey-Doak Black Knights improved to 10-6 with is second win over Johnson County in two days.

    Chuckey-Doak had 11 hits. Jake Hinkle was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, Christian Derry and Dom Atchison each went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Lynkin Cutshaw was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Ben Palazzo had a double and an RBI, Gavin Crum had a hit and an RBI, and Luke Myers had a hit.

    Myers went the distance on the mound for the win. In seven innings, he gave up nine hits, walked three and struck out three. Two of Johnson County’s five runs were earned.

    University High 13 North Greene 2

    BAILEYTON — North Greene dropped to 7-6 with its second loss in two days to University.

    North Greene had five hits, singles by Isaac Gaby, Colton Robbins, Mason Smith, Jake Duffy and Aidan Halley.

    South Greene 11 Happy Valley 1

    ELIZABETHTON — Colby Brooks drew the start on the mound for South Greene and picked up the win, while Brendan Lisenby notched a three-inning save on Tuesday.

    In four innings, Brooks gave up four hits, a run, walked three and struck out seven.

    Lisenby held Happy Valley hitless and scoreless the rest of the way, walking two and striking out five.

    South Greene had 11 hits. Tyler Buckner was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, Seth Franklin was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI, Brooks was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Colton Fillers had a hit and two RBI, Lisenby had a double and an RBI, Pablo Rosario had a hit and an RBI, and Dustin Crum had a hit.

    South Greene improves to 10-8.

    Happy Valley 8 South Greene 4

    Colby Brooks went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI for South Greene’s only hits.

    South Greene committed five errors that led to six unearned runs for Happy Valley.

    Graydon Rader drew the start on the mound for South Greene and took the loss. In 4 1/3 innings, he gave up three hits, six runs (one earned), walked four and struck out six.

    Jacob Susong was a bright spot on the mound for South Greene. He pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, gave up one hit, walked none and struck out two.

    West Greene 4 Hampton 0

    MOSHEIM — West Greene improved to 12-5 with its second shutout of Hampton in two days on Tuesday.

    Mason McCamey went the distance on the mound for the win. In seven innings, he gave up four hits, walked two and struck out 13.

    West Greene’s Maddox Garber had a double and two RBI, and Kaven Greene had a hit.

    SOFTBALL West Greene Sweeps

    The West Greene Lady Buffaloes swept a doubleheader with Hampton 8-6 and 16-6 to improve to 3-5.

    In the 8-6 win, Hayley Arnold had a triple and two RBI, Amanda Owens had a double and two RBI, Alissa Lawson and Alexis Cutshall each had a hit and an RBI, Aubree Everett had a triple, and Morgan Brown, Addison Peters and Chloie Reams each had a hit.

    Brown went the distance in the circle for the win. In five innings, she gave up eight hits, walked four and struck out seven. Four of Hampton’s six runs were earned.

    In the 16-6 win, West Greene cranked out 13 hits. Owens was 3-for-3 with a double; Arnold was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI; Cutshall was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI; Brown was 2-for-2 with four RBI; Everett and Willett each had a hit and an RBI; and Peters had a hit.

    Brown again went the distance in the circle for the win. In five innings, she gave up 10 hits, walked none and struck out two. All six of Hampton’s runs were earned.

    Greeneville 12 Cherokee 3

    ROGERSVILLE — Greeneville improved to 12-7 with the win.

    Leah Phillips went the distance in the circle for the win. In seven innings, she gave up nine hits, walked three and struck out seven. All three Cherokee runs were earned.

    Greeneville had 14 hits with every Lady Devil in the lineup getting at least one.

    Brynlee Jones was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and two RBI; Kaley Garland was 2-for-4 with a double and five RBI; Kyla Jobe was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI; Stoan Rader was 2-for-5 with a triple and an RBI; Madison Carpenter was 2-for-3; Lauren Million had a hit and two RBI; Phillips had a hit and an RBI; Adaley Lamons had a triple; and Lydia Darnell had a hit.

    South Greene 7 Happy Valley 1

    ELIZABETHTON — The South Greene Lady Rebels improved to 9-3 with the win.

    South Greene’s Kaylee Whitson went the distance in the circle. In seven innings, she gave up seven hits, walked one and struck out three. Happy Valley’s run was earned.

    The Lady Rebels had eight hits. Whitney Reaves was 2-for-3, Whitson had a hit and two RBI, Kortnei Bailey had a double and an RBI, and Katie Willett, Reagan Arrowood, Macy Roberts and Nevaeh Davis each had a hit.

    SOCCER University High 5 West Greene 0

    JOHNSON CITY — West Greene struggled in a road loss to University High on Tuesday.

    The Buffaloes gave up three goals in the first half and two in the second.

    West Greene falls to 1-5 overall, 1-2 in the district.
