GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. (WWLP) – A potentially catastrophic incident was averted Friday as emergency responders were called to a motor vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer hauling concrete on Route 23 near the Egremont town line.
According to officials, at approximately 1:38 p.m., the Great Barrington Fire Department (GBFD), alongside the Great Barrington Police Department and Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad, Inc., arrived to the scene following reports of the accident. Despite the severity of the collision, there were no injuries reported, and no other vehicles were involved.

GBFD personnel took immediate action to clear the travel lane, cutting branches of the tree that had obstructed the roadway. The Great Barrington Police Department has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident to ascertain the cause and any contributing factors.
“This is a prime example of why you should never pull out in front of a tractor-trailer,” emphasized authorities. “The velocity and weight of the vehicle combine to obliterate a large pine tree – imagine what would happen if it was your car.”

While the outcome of this incident was fortunate, it serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with large vehicles on the road. Emergency services urge motorists to exercise caution and remain vigilant, especially when navigating alongside tractor-trailers.
“Call us if you need us, we’ll be here for you!” reassured officials, highlighting the commitment of local emergency services to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
