OU’s bullying tactics are simply union busting
I normally write columns about legal matters. Although this topic does have a legal action involved, it has less to do with the courts than it does with justice. I’m talking about Ohio University’s handling of negotiations with the newly formed faculty union, United Academics of Ohio University, which represents about 800 full-time tenured, tenure-track, instructional and clinical faculty.

Ohio University Chillicothe marks 80 years of local roots
Ohio University Chillicothe is marking 80 years of service rooted in a community effort that secured land, raised funding and helped establish the campus as a permanent part of south-central Ohio. The campus opened its first classes in September 1946, according to a community announcement, but spent more than a decade operating without a building of its own. Local residents stepped in during 1960 and 1961 to purchase acreage on Carlisle Hill, then raised $200,000 to demonstrate support for higher education in Chillicothe. That investment helped persuade state leaders that the community was committed to sustaining a regional campus. Bennett Hall, the first permanent building at Ohio University Chillicothe, opened in 1966. A plaque inside the building recognizes residents who contributed money, labor and time to make the campus possible. The anniversary highlights a tradition of local civic leadership that continues through the OHIO Chillicothe Regional Coordinating Council. Community effort helped build the campus Ohio University launched the Chillicothe campus as part of a broader response to growing college enrollment after World War II. The GI Bill brought large numbers of veterans into higher education, prompting Ohio University President John C. Baker to expand instruction into communities across the region.
