DERIDDER, La. (KALB) - History was made at Starlight Missionary Baptist Church on May 18, 2025, as Michael D. Harris was sworn in as DeRidder’s first Black mayor. It was an emotional moment for Mayor Harris and his family. At times, the First Lady could be seen wiping away tears. The sanctuary was filled with elected officials, community members and supporters. Those who spoke during the ceremony praised Harris’ character and assured the audience that he is the right person to lead the city forward.
