Fleet of military aircraft from Oklahoma evacuated to Sacramento due to weather
SACRAMENTO (KOVR) — Sacramento’s McClellan Air Force Base was shut down more than two decades ago, but you wouldn’t know that by looking at the tarmac Thursday night. It’s a sight not seen in Sacramento skies for more than twenty years. For the second week in a row, an entire air wing of large military jets landed at McClellan Park.
Vigil held for teen stabbed to death near Sacramento's Tower Bridge
ANTELOPE -- Friends and loved ones gathered at an Antelope park in Sacramento County on Friday to remember 16-year-old Kirill Trush who was stabbed and killed near the Tower Bridge in West Sacramento over the weekend.The vigil was organized by Trush's friends and attended by some of his Central High School classmates. Family members, including his cousin and aunt, also attended the vigil.Rain didn't stop the plans to honor Trush, and as the rain stopped and the sun peaked through clouds, one friend told CBS13 that it was symbolic of Trush's personality."Today's weather, for example, sunshine on a rainy day, that was him. He just brought smiles to everyone — all the time," said Isabella Plasichuk, a friend.Candles, balloons, and photos of the teen were set up in his honor alongside handwritten messages of love from his friends."He's only 16. His life's not supposed to end there," said Angelina Zhuravskaya, Trush's aunt.Some in attendance told CBS13 that they want to know who the suspect is and are hopeful there will be an update soon.West Sacramento police said this week that there is not an ongoing threat to the public and that the incident appears to be isolated.
2 arrested for retail theft in Folsom
Two were arrested Wednesday in relation to an organized retail theft at the Folsom Premium Outlets. The Folsom Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing unit was notified of a theft in progress at a shoe store. According to Folsom PD, officers spotted two suspects as they ran to a waiting vehicle while carrying bags of stolen shoes.
Granite Bay residents continue to oppose Placer County rezoning for low-income housing
GRANITE BAY, Calif. — In March, Placer County residents made it clear they don't want low-income housing in their backyards. Their fight continues this week. Placer County officials are looking for 19 more properties to rezone for high-density, low-income housing as part of its Housing Needs Rezone Program. The county must find more places for this kind of housing to keep local control of its land and have access to grant funding for local programs and initiatives.
