Avens appointed interim EC police chief
Lt. James E, Avens has been named interim chief of the Elizabeth City Police Department. City Manager Montré Freeman appointed Avens interim chief because today is the final day of work for Chief Phil Webster, who is retiring after several decades in law enforcement. Engineer: Corolla lost 'tractor trailer worth of beach' in last 14 years
CURRITUCK — Currituck’s Atlantic shoreline appears to be creeping ever closer to residents’ homes in Corolla and other parts of the county’s Outer Banks due to shoreline erosion over the last several years. That’s according to Ken Willson, a senior project manager with the Wilmington-based firm Coastal Protection Engineering. The firm has been conducting beach stability surveys of Currituck’s near 25 miles of Atlantic shoreline since 2020.
