    High School Roundup: Panthers no-hit Eagles in 10-0 win

    The Pasquotank County Panthers no-hit cross-county rival and Northeast Coastal Conference foe Northeastern High School 10-0 in baseball on Friday.

    Nathan Rice and Ryan Robinson combined on the no-hitter in a five-inning run-rule game. Rice pitched 4.2 innings, giving up three walks and striking out six Eagle batters. Robinson faced one hitter and retired him.

    Andrew Bundy and John Leary led the Panthers’ 12 hit attack, with each collecting three hits and knocking in three runs. Blaike Hill had two hits and knocked in a run.

    Rice, who scored two runs, also had a hit and knocked in run. Connor Beech, who scored two runs, also knocked in a run. Connor Morris, who scored a run, also knocked in a run.

    Ethan Overton, Robinson and Darius Ferebee also joined the Panthers’ hit parade with a single each.

    The Panthers, who scored two runs in the second, exploded for seven runs in the third. They scored their tenth run in the home half of the fifth to force enactment of the run rule.

    Softball

    Pasquotank 18, Northeastern 0The Pasquotank High School Panthers shutout cross-county rival and NCC foe Northeastern High School on Friday 18-0.

    The Panthers jumped on the Eagles in the first inning for 13 runs and scored five more in the second before the game was run-ruled after 2½ innings.

    Marrissa Norman led the Panthers’ seven-hit attack, collecting two of them. She also scored two runs and knocked in two runs.

    Natalee Meads had a hit, scored two runs, and knocked in two more. Addison Foster doubled in a run and also scored a run. Emma Bailey had a hit and scored three runs. She also had three of the Panthers’ nine stolen bases.

    Ashlynn Wiatt had a hit, scored a run and knocked in one. Chloe Simmons also had a hit, scored two runs, swiped a base and knocked in a run. McKenna Overton scored two runs, had a run batted in and swiped two bases. Lanna Wise scored three runs and also had an RBI. She also had three steals.

    Zhanyia Cherry had one of the Eagles’ two hits.

    Meads got the win, giving up two hits and one walk in three innings of work. She also struck out four Eagle hitters.

    Perquimans 3, Martin County 1The Perquimans County Pirates won their opening round game in the Four Rivers Conference Tournament, defeating Martin County 3-1.

    Perquimans scored three runs in the first and held the Knights to a single run in the top of the fifth to secure the win.

    Lilly Winslow and Bristyl Riddick led the Pirates’ six-hit attack, collecting two hits each. Kaydee Hunter doubled in a run and scored a run. K. Stallings also doubled while Indya Long scored a run and drove in a run. Morgan Baccus also knocked in a run.

    A. Stallings pitched 5.1 innings, giving up one earned run, five hits and five walks while striking out two. M. Stokley pitched 1.2 innings, giving up a hit and a walk while striking out two.

    Soccer

    Bear Grass Charter 5, Holmes 3The John A. Holmes High School Aces lost a non-conference soccer game to Bear Grass Charter on Friday 5-3.

    The Bears of Bear Grass scored two goals in the first half and three in the second. The Holmes Aces scored all three of their goals in the second half.

    Emma Parrish scored two goals on five shots on goal. She also had an assist. L. Carpiette scored one goal on two shots on goal. Ellie Spear and Janaya Perry had the other two assists.

    Goalkeeper Ava Bunch recorded 11 saves on 16 Bear Grass shots on goal.
