During the early morning hours of May 9, 2024, the Aitkin-Itasca-Mille Lacs Violent Crimes Enforcement Team (AIM VCET) conducted a controlled substance investigation in the City of Grand Rapids.

AIM VCET Agents received information of an adult female being involved in the sales of methamphetamine and was staying at a local hotel. AIM VCET Agents were able to locate the female who was identified as Emily Kocemba, age 30, of Grand Rapids. While drafting a search warrant for the hotel room, Agents observed Kocemba leave the hotel. A traffic stop was conducted and Kocemba was detained pending execution of the search warrant.

After being granted a search warrant entry was made into the hotel room, where Agents located two children ages 18 months and 8 months. Agents also located a bathtub filled with water and approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine in the hotel room. The children had been left in the room alone, with no adult supervision.

Kocemba was arrested for 1st Degree Sales of a Controlled Substance, Felony Methamphetamine Crime Involving Children, and Felony Store Methamphetamine in Presence of a Child.

Kocemba is being held in the Itasca County Jail pending criminal proceedings.

AIM VCET was assisted by the Grand Rapids Police Department and the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office. The AIM VCET requests that if any citizens in the three county coverage area have concerns or information regarding ongoing criminal activity involving drugs or violent crimes to please contact their local dispatch centers or the AIM VCET office at 218-927-7449.
