BROOKINGS, S.D. (USD) – South Dakota (23-28) defeated North Dakota (14-42) 6-5 in 10 innings to advance to the next round of the Summit League Tournament. Clara Edwards hit the squeeze bunt to bring in Alivia Conte for the win in the 10 th inning.

The fourth-seeded Coyotes advance to the second round of the tournament and will face the number one-seeded Jackrabbits of South Dakota State at 11 a.m. Thursday.

It was a round one game worthy of postseason play as the Coyotes and Fighting Hawks battled back and forth through 10 innings.

The first inning was a busy one for the Yotes, who racked up three runs early in the bottom of the first to take a 3-0 lead over North Dakota. Tatum Villotta started the scoring spurt when she scored USD’s first run of the game off a wild pitch from UND. Delaney White singled to bring in Conte and Alexia Terrazas doubled to left field to bring in Edwards and take the early lead. North Dakota responded in the top of fourth with three runs of its own to tie it up at 3-3.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Coyotes quickly took back their lead when Maddox Boston , who was pinch-hitting for Alecea Mendoza , brought in Gabby Moser and Abi Brown to take a 5-3 lead.

The Fighting Hawks managed to tie it up once again in the top of seventh inning with a sacrifice fly from catcher Cassie Castaneda to bring in Olivia Dick. South Dakota was unable to score in the bottom of the seventh, sending the game into extra innings.

It was a scoreless affair until the bottom of the 10 th inning. Conte hit a double to bring White up to bat. White managed a hit but was out at first base, but it still advanced Conte to third base. Edwards hit a squeeze bunt and Conte slid home, giving the Coyotes the walk-off win.

The Coyotes will face No. 1 seeded South Dakota State at 11 a.m. Thursday in Brookings. The game will be available to stream on the Summit League Network
