Polar Vortex Disruption Has One GFS Run Showing 12.8 Inches of Snow in Hazleton and 6.4 in Scranton and Burlington by November 6, a Scenario Still Considered Unlikely
SCRANTON, PENNSYLVANIA — A possible polar vortex disruption is being closely watched by forecasters. Saturday’s run of the American GFS model reacted to it by showing an early November swath of snow across the Appalachians and Northeast. The model run, initialized at 00z on Saturday, October 24, shows snowfall totals through 1 p.m. Friday, November 6 reaching 12.8 inches in Hazleton, 6.4 inches in Scranton and 6.4 inches in Burlington, Vermont. Forecasters stress that this outcome is very unlikely. It is being shared because early season snow, especially in higher elevations, is one possible outcome of a major polar vortex disruption.

Another mainly dry week lies ahead
BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) -Happy Monday! Hopefully you were able to get out and enjoy the lovely weather from this past weekend. For our Monday, there could be a few more clouds and even the chance for a stray passing sprinkle the further north that you are especially right along the Canadian border. The further south you look you stay dry with more sunshine. High temperatures for the day climb into the 50s north, but 60s to about 70 off to the south thanks to that sunshine. Tonight, most of us fall back into the 20s and 30s.

Sunny and warmer for Sunday. Most of the week will once again be dry, except for a couple of chances for light showers.
BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Sunday will continue the dry and sunny weather, except it will be pleasantly warmer with highs in the upper 50s to mid-60s. It will be excellent for checking out the remaining fall foliage. Though we’re past peak at this point, there are still some trees that have nice color. Sunday night won’t be as cold due to a gentle southwest breeze ahead of a cold front. That front will pass through mainly dry on Monday, but a few sprinkles are possible in northern parts of the region. Highs will be in the 50s. Much cooler air will move in behind this front.

Winter outlook favors fewer cold days, more ice/mix events
BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - NOAA’s winter outlook favors warmer-than-normal temperatures and below-normal precipitation across Vermont from December through February. That points to fewer prolonged cold stretches, fewer subzero nights and more opportunities for rain, sleet or ice instead of snow. Burlington’s average wintertime temperatures still show how cold the...
