GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Rivergate Mall has stood the test of time and remained a Goodlettsville landmark for 53 years. A developer is asking city commissioners to re-zone the property, so the old Macy’s building can be transformed.

Currently, the mall area is zoned as commercial services limited. The developer is requesting a rezoning of regional center planned unit development. This allows both commercial and residential buildings.

“It’s a recommendation to our city commission to amend our zoning map,” Director of Planning and Development Addam McCormick said. “They want to create 330 multi-family residential units, 17,000-square-foot commercial space, and 60,000-square-foot hotel at the Macy’s old building.”

The plan does not include all of Rivergate Mall.

Goodlettsville City Manager Tim Ellis told News 2 another portion is up for sale, including the inside hallways that connect each store and each of the anchor stores owns their part of the building.

McCormick believes if commissioners approve the rezoning, this project could set off more transformation at the mall. Bringing even more housing options to an area which is only expected to grow.

On May 6, city commissioners will decide about the rezoning.
