Over 90 people will be laid off when snack manufacturer near Charlotte closes
More than 90 people will be laid off this winter when a snack manufacturing facility in Catawba County closes its doors. Powered by FTGU LLC will shutter its Conover facility at 103B Somerset Drive NW by Dec. 16, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) report filed on Oct. 19. Federal law requires such notices for certain mass layoffs. The report became available Oct. 22. The closure will cost 93 people their jobs. FTGU is the company behind Real Food From The Ground Up, a brand that makes plant-based snacks such as cauliflower pretzels and potato chips. The brand is owned by Our Home, which also owns Pop Secret popcorn and Popchips. It’s unclear why FTGU is closing the Conover facility, which is about 50 miles north of Charlotte. A request for comment was not immediately answered Thursday. Our Home also plans to shutter several other facilities by December. Last week, Powered by FTGU announced it would close a facility in Lititz, Pennsylvania. At the facility, 67 people will be laid off. In August, the brand said it would close a Las Vegas warehouse, resulting in 61 layoffs. About Our Home Our Home is a privately held
