N.H. football: Hefler, Somersworth run wild in Division III playoff win over Laconia

SOMERSWORTH — Kaleb Hefler started the fireworks with a pair of long touchdown runs, and the Somersworth High School football team never looked back in its 50-21 win over Laconia Saturday in the first round of the Division III playoffs. Second-seeded Somersworth (8-1) had three players rush for more than 100 yards and piled up 444 yards on the ground, asserting its dominance at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball against No. 7 Laconia (4-5). The Hilltoppers will host No. 3 Monadnock on Saturday, Nov. 14. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monadnock advanced with a 33-6 win over No. 6 Stevens. Somersworth beat Monadnock, 35-32, in their regular-season matchup. “It was awesome,” said Somersworth coach Jeremy Lambert of Saturday’s win. “We had challenged the kids, especially with the weather, that we had to stick with our basic game plan and just run down hill. They did a great job up front. Our two offensive ends (Tristan Gobern) and (Diamaonte Pough) did a phenomenal job blocking and allowed us to exploit off tackle. Our ends don’t get targeted much when we’re a run heavy team, but the way they blocked today was just phenomenal. I’m so

Stephen Pina message to coach's dad led to removal from subcommittees | Exclusive

Brockton School Committee member Stephen Pina was removed from all subcommittees over a message he sent the father of a district employee. The vote was taken in executive session, a meeting held privately to discuss sensitive topics like personnel matters. A complaint regarding Pina was discussed during a Sept. 15 committee meeting, according to the agenda. Over the course of multiple phone interviews with The Enterprise, Pina and Vice Chair Claudio Gomes offered conflicting accounts of why the message could have led members to vote him off subcommittees — which are akin to working groups for areas like athletics, safety and teacher's union negotiations. Pina said Oct. 7 he was removed because, in the message, he expressed his belief that girls should not play on Brockton High's boys football team, and other members disagreed with this view. Gomes said Oct. 13 there were other reasons. "The fact that he's still trying to make his one-sided story is just insane," Gomes said. Gomes said he is not allowed to discuss what happened in executive session. But he said he could offer his opinion as someone interpreting publicly available information. From that perspective, he said in an interview Oct. 19 the message

St. John’s (Shrewsbury) football cruises past Brockton in MIAA playoffs

SHREWSBURY -- There wasn't a better time or place for Aiden Dagnello to rumble into the end zone for his first career touchdown as a member of the St. John's Shrewsbury football team. The Pioneers put together a scoring party in the first round of the MIAA Division 1 state tournament, taking down Brockton 58-18 on Thursday, Nov. 5. St. John’s spoiled the playoff debut of first-year Brockton head coach Mike Norman Jr. despite a strong start that saw Brockton take an early lead in the first quarter. “We came out and threw the first punch, but we have to continue to ride that high and we haven’t done that,” said Norman Jr. “When you can’t, results like this happen." On the other side, Dagnello didn't just take part in the scoring party on Thursday. He was the life of it. St. John's (Shrewsbury) led Brockton 17-6 with just over seven minutes remaining in the second quarter when the 6-2, 295-pound defensive lineman tipped a pass from Brockton senior quarterback Marcio Semedo and tracked it in the air at the Boxer 40-yard line for an interception return touchdown. “I almost had one last week, but I dropped it,” Dagnello said.

Hannah Hidalgo Becomes Only Player This Century to Achieve Rare Milestone in Notre Dame's Dominant Win

Scoring 20 points in a college game is an achievement in itself. Recording 10 steals is an entirely different challenge, requiring anticipation, quick hands, and consistent disruption of the opponent’s defense. Hannah Hidalgo has made doing both look remarkably easy—and today she joined an exclusive club, adding a major milestone to an already historic Notre Dame career. “Hannah Hidalgo now has the most career 20-point, 10-steal games (7) of any player THIS CENTURY 🤯,” ESPN W pointed out on Instagram. Hidalgo, who logged her seventh such game today, a rare milestone, finished the game against ...
