United Houma Nation Powwow returns June 15-16 for first time since 2020
Houma's powwow is returning for the first time since Covid-19 pandemic. The United Houma Nation's intertribal powwow returns for its 12th time Saturday and Sunday at the Barry P Bonvillain Civic Center in Houma. Attendance is free, and doors open at 10 a.m. both days. The powwow ends at 10 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday. This year's powwow will include a large dance competition, with a total of $10,000 in prizes on the line spread across multiple dance categories and divisions.

Rotary Club's Citizens of the Year
Stacey Lancaster, left, and Kim Carrier, right, of the Purple Lemon in Bayou Vista were named the Morgan City Rotary Club's Citizens of the Year at Thursday's installation banquet at the Petroleum Club of Morgan City. The Rotary also donated $1,500 to be used for the Purple Lemon's efforts to help women overcome addiction. The Purple Lemon is also a thrift store, the Uncommon Grounds coffee shop and cafe, and a Second Harvest food bank in its warehouse.
