March 1, 2024 – Assemblyman Keith Brown, a Long Island Republican, wants to address the annual learning loss experienced by most students when they return to school in the fall by shrinking summer vacation. He has proposed legislation extending the school year in New York to at least 200 days.
Rite Aid closing 77 stores in 2024; list includes Upstate NY locations
The list of Rite Aid stores closings in 2024 has grown to 77 locations, including multiple pharmacies in Upstate New York. Court documents show at least 12 Rite Aid stores in New York state are closing this year, in addition to more than two dozen locations that shuttered in 2023 (mainly in New York City). Stores in Auburn (153 Grant Avenue), Elmira (119 West 2nd St.), and Le Roy (151 West Main St.) were closed last month, while newly announced stores closing include Rite Aids in Buffalo (2474 Bailey Ave.) and in Poughkeepsie (40 Vassar Road).
