Highway 93 Henderson construction update
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Construction on Highway 93 between Henderson and Highway 169 is progressing, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Weather permitting, pile driving operations are expected to begin sometime next week, for approximately two weeks. Pile driving can create significant noise so operations will be conducted during daytime hours to minimize disruptions for residents who live near the highway. The work is necessary to install piles that will support a concrete box culvert just south of the levee in Henderson.
Memorial Day at Veterans Memorial
The New Germany American Legion performed a rifle salute and played taps at five cemeteries on Memorial Day to recognize those veterans who have died. The program was held at the Carver County Veterans Memorial in Mayer. During the ceremony, the flag that was flown for one month to honor Dwayne Krienke who died in 2014 was replaced with a new flag for next month to honor nine Civil War veterans. The New Germany Legion provided pavers for each veteran and information was given on each one of them. These veterans’ graves are in western Carver County. Rev. Tom Colgrove of New Germany Legion Post 61 provided an inspiring message and closed with a prayer. The program was put together by the Carver County Veterans Memorial committee. (Submitted photos)

Big rain brings new lakes
The skys opened up and poured on the area early Monday morning. People woke up to much standing water around town and in the rural area. Many also unfortunately woke up to wet basements. After a couple of weeks of rain on a regular basis, Monday morning drenched the area with 3-4 inches.
Cathedral takes home the Class A state softball title
NORTH MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - The New Ulm Cathedral softball team took on Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley in the Class A state championship game. Cathedral took a 4-2 lead in the second after an Abbey Hillesheim home run. The Greyhounds would continue stacking runs, Sophomore Ava Schmid had a 2 RBI single to extend the Greyhounds lead 6-2 in the 4th and later Senior Alexa Hornick had a 3 RBI single to make it 9-2.
Glencoe takes a shine for new Goat therapy business
Goat Shine, a husband-and-wife-owned animal therapy business based in Glencoe, has grown over the past several years due to its nontraditional approach to therapy. Owners Tracy and Ed Becker agree that the COVID-19 pandemic has changed their business and that there is a need for animal therapy related to mental health.
