GAYLORD — Culinary students from Gaylord High School took third place in the Michigan ProStart Invitational, the highest-level competition for state high school students training in culinary and hospitality careers.

The Gaylord (GHS) team competed in the all-new Pasta Category sponsored by KitchenAid. Teams competing in the Pasta Category are given just 60 minutes to craft a handmade pasta and then add their own creative touch to a mother sauce to create a standout pasta dish.

The full rankings for the Pasta Category includes: first place: Bay Arenac ISD – Team A, second place: RCTC Ypsilanti, third place: Gaylord High School – Team B, fourth place: Allegan ESA – Team B and fifth place: DCTC Riverview High School.

All top five placement winners in this category will be invited to participate in the Beyond the Green program at the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship where they will also participate in a showcase on May 22.

More than 400 high school students, representing 28 schools across the state, competed in the Michigan ProStart Competition that took place in Kalamazoo in March, an annual culinary and management competition hosted by the Michigan Hospitality Foundation. The competition helps students gain firsthand experience in critical industry skills like food safety, business management, menu development and marketing.
