Guilty plea thrown out in murder case
Brittney Diane Gidney, 34, pleaded guilty for a second time on Tuesday afternoon, this time to second-degree murder in the death of 71-year-old Brenda Campbell Henson. Henson was found with 47-year-old Robert Bryan Metcalfe with stab wounds and the marks of a hammer inside a house on Mary Avenue on April 4, 2018.

One killed, another injured in Gastonia shooting
One person is dead and another hospitalized after a shooting Friday night in Gastonia. The call came in to police just after 10 p.m. regarding a situation in the area of Pine Street and Shamrock Road near Hickory Grove Road. Upon arrival, officers found two people with gunshot wounds. Both were transported to a local hospital where one person succumbed to their injuries, and the other remained in stable condition Saturday morning.
