MATTHEWS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Warrants show that a Gastonia woman is facing charges for an alleged involvement in an illegal gambling operation in Matthews.
The operation, which was one of several raided Wednesday across Mecklenburg and Gaston counties, involves dozens of charges.
The warrants, issued in Mecklenburg County but served in Gaston, said that Nina Nashar was involved in the operation at City Arcade off Independence Boulevard, where she “unlawfully, willfully and feloniously did… operate 30 cabinet-style (video game machines), six 10-terminal fish tables, and 30 CPI sweepstakes (video game machines).”
Nashar faces a total of around 80 charges, which include a felony charge of Continuing a Criminal Enterprise, along with operating and possessing slot machines.
Queen City News has learned that local law enforcement agencies were involved in the operation in Matthews, as well as in east Charlotte and Gastonia, with North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) agents.
ALE agents also handle enforcement of the state’s lottery laws.
Nashar’s address, listed in Gastonia, was reportedly raided Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.
Two other women who also live at that address were also arrested and are facing a similar list of charges, however, warrants for them were not immediately available as of Thursday afternoon. Another person, with a similar last name, was also arrested on similar charges, and warrants for them were also not available.
Queen City News has reached out to ALE for comment, along with other law enforcement agencies involved in the operation. No comment had been made by those agencies as of our deadline.
