Traverse City West hold ribbon cutting for new facilities
TRAVERSE CITY - Traverse City West high school held a ribbon cutting on Thursday afternoon for their new athletic fields. The soccer, softball and baseball teams couldn’t play home games for the past year, but with the new fields that is a thing of the past. TC West has also built a new concession stand and locker room area for officials. The school’s athletic director, Jason Carmien was happy about the new opportunities for the students. “Our seniors are really happy that they get to spend their last year back at their home place. Coaches are happy because practices can take place every day and it’s really been a game changer for us to have an entrance with ticketing, concessions, bathroom. We have changing rooms for our umpires and referees. The upgrades have been tremendous, and we really want to thank everybody that had a hand in it. It’s been it’s been pretty awesome,” said Carmien.

Pit Spitters announce new non-profit Community Foundation program
TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Pit Spitters announced their new extension of the Community Foundation, an organization that will help various programs in the community. Events during the 2024 season will now be under the non-profit’s umbrella including raffles, a pinch hitter program, and a reading program. Pit Spitters General Manager Jacqueline Holm says it’s all about furthering their mission to help local organizations continue to thrive. “We the Pit Spitters, are a platform and a vessel for amazing and incredible opportunities for the people that’s supported so much, the community,” says Holm. “It’s the least we could do to give back and try and build some equity back for them and show them how much we appreciate them. A lot of these programs are already running. We’ve just put a formal name to it now so that the community can find out more about it.” The Pit Spitters season kicks off May 29.

St. Mary's School community runs for education
Students, staff and family members at St. Mary’s Catholic School put on their running shoes in support of their school and to raise money for future school expenses. The annual Race for Education at St. Mary’s was held on Thursday morning, during which students of all grade levels ran or walked as many laps as possible on the designated course around the school and church for one hour. During the hour-long run, the students shouted out chants and cheered each other on, keeping the energy up while also vying for most spirited grade.
