Average LA County Gas Price Drops For 21st Time in 22 Days

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped Friday for the 21st time in 22 days, falling 1.7 cents to $6.134. The average price has decreased 30.5 cents over the past 22 days, including 3.2 cents Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It dropped 10 consecutive days, rose four-tenths of a cent Oct. 12 and resumed decreasing the following day.

Blast Damage Adds New Setback for LAX's $3.34 Billion People Mover

LOS ANGELES - Three "blast incidents" on the LAX people mover guideway damaged the system's power rail and guide beam during a late-September ramp-up ahead of testing, according to a new project report. The cause remains unknown and investigations are ongoing. The report says the guide beam has been repaired, but power-rail reassembly is still underway with no confirmed timeline. The damage lands as contractor LAX Integrated Express Solutions, or LINXS, projects passenger service could begin Feb. 5, 2027. That is a contractor forecast, not an opening date announced by Los Angeles World Airports. LAWA's SkyLink page says the system remains in final testing and certification. Before passengers can board, the 2.25-mile elevated train must complete 30 consecutive days of successful testing, undergo an independent review and receive final safety approvals. LINXS had previously projected passenger service would begin Jan. 6, 2027, if it met a Dec. 8 construction-completion deadline and cleared required testing, according to a Sept. 24 Westside Current report . The line was originally expected to open in 2023. It is intended to connect airport terminals with parking, pickup and drop-off areas, the LAX Rental Car Center and Metro's LAX/Metro Transit Center.
