Alice May Westergaard, a 78-year-old Galt, MO resident, passed away at 8:56 p.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at her home in Galt. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 13, 2024, at the Galt Christian Church in Galt. Burial will follow in Berry Cemetery north of Galt. A visitation is scheduled from 1:00 until service time on Monday. Open visitation will be from noon until 6:00 p.m., Sunday at Slater Neal Funeral Home of Trenton. Memorial donations are suggested to the Berry Cemetery and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.

Newtown-Harris board confirms Career Ladder for next school year
The Newtown-Harris R-3 Board of Education approved the Career Ladder program and summer school for the upcoming school year on May 8th. The Career Ladder program will maintain the same structure as this year. Stage 1 involves 50 hours of work for $1,500. Superintendent Dr. Matt Copeland noted the program costs the district $6,000 against $15,000 in payments, with the state covering the remainder.

Free kids fishing derby in Chillicothe this June
The North Missouri Sportsman’s Alliance and Missouri Department of Conservation will host their annual Kids Fishing Derby next month. The Livingston County Veterans Association will also help host the event at the pond on the north side of the Baptist Home in Chillicothe on June 1. Registration will start at 8:30 a.m., and the non-competitive derby will run from 9 a.m. to noon.
Trenton man charged with DWI and reckless driving
Misdemeanor charges have been filed against a Trenton resident following an April 19 police investigation at 26th and Chicago in North Trenton. Michel Sergo Zessi, 41, faces charges of driving while intoxicated for the second time and careless and imprudent driving. The charges stem from allegations that Zessi failed to stop at a stop sign and subsequently drove his pickup truck into a ditch.
