The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrests of two local and area residents on April 22. The Trenton Police Department apprehended Taylor Scott Groves, a 21-year-old from Trenton, for felony resisting arrest. This charge stemmed from an incident where Groves allegedly fled from police, significantly risking serious injury or death to others. Additionally, he faces misdemeanors for driving while his license was revoked or suspended—his second or third such offense—and for operating a motor vehicle recklessly. The charges also include operating a motorcycle without a valid license, failing to register a motor vehicle, and driving without maintaining the required financial responsibility for a second or subsequent time. Groves’ bond is set at $25,000, payable in cash only. His court appearance is scheduled for May 14 in the Associate Division of the Grundy County Circuit Court.
Area students win top awards in agriculture at Missouri FFA Convention
Abigail Burns of Gallatin won the Missouri FFA Agriscience Research Integrated Systems Proficiency Award at the 96th Missouri FFA Convention. Burns, a senior at Gallatin R-V High School, is the daughter of Brant and Tara Burns. She is a member of the Gallatin FFA Chapter. Her advisor is Brant Burns. Burns’ supervised agricultural experience program involves researching germination rates of oak acorns used in oak tree regeneration efforts. Her responsibilities include performing a literature review, designing and executing the project, and recording data. As an FFA member, Burns has participated in the National Agriscience Fair and earned multiple state agriscience fair and proficiency awards. In addition to FFA, Burns is a member of the National Honor Society and the Future Business Leaders of America. After graduating from high school, Burns plans to study plant and environmental research at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees, or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Agriscience Research Integrated Systems is one of 46 proficiency award areas recognized at the state level. FMC Corporation sponsored this award.
