    High School Recap: Fridley's Johnson wins Elite Meet triple jump; Andover's Pardo, Brown and Polzin homer

    Several area athletes took part in the state’s premier regular season track and field event at the Hamline Elite Meet April 26, featuring the state’s top athletes from all classes.

    Fridley boys: Fadel Johnson was the champion in the triple jump with a leap of 45-2. Lorenzo Hampton III earned eighth in the 300 hurdles, Tykeilan Hy Shaw-Moore earned ninth in the long jump, and Isaiah Watson earned ninth in the triple jump and 10th in the long jump.

    Andover girls: Avah Shaw earned sixth in the long jump and seventh in the high jump, and Payton McKnight earned eighth in the 300 hurdles.

    Andover boys: Jackson Froslee earned third in the pole vault, Shae Wyszynski earned fifth in the 300 hurdles, Maurice Counce earned seventh in the long jump, and the 4x800 relay earned 10th.

    Anoka boys: Aaron Peterson earned third in the 800.

    Blaine boys: River Santiago earned seventh in the 1,600.

    Coon Rapids boys: KhiJohnn Cummings-Coleman earned fifth in the 200 and 10th in the 100.

    Coon Rapids girls: Nyebol Jock earned eighth in the 100 hurdles.

    Totino-Grace boys: Matthew Lindgren earned 15th in the 1,600.

    Baseball

    Andover earned a 10-4 win against Coon Rapids April 30 to improve to 6-3. Anthony Pardo went 3-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs, Grant Pieri had three hits, Drew Law and Teddy Heller scored twice, and Brett Buettner drove in two and earned the win on the mound. CR won its previous outing 7-3 over Robbinsdale Armstrong April 25.

    Spring Lake Park topped Centennial 10-2 April 30 to improve to 5-2 in NWSC play.

    Totino-Grace earned a 9-1 win over Maple Grove April 30.

    Park Center/Maranatha/Columbia Heights remained atop the Tri-Metro Conference with a 19-6 win over Fridley April 24.

    St. Francis struck for six runs in the sixth inning to break away from Duluth Denfeld 7-1 April 30, improving to 6-2. Owen Lamson went six innings without allowing an earned run to earn the win, and Brandon Kamprud drove in two runs.

    Legacy Christian Academy earned a 19-2 win over PACT April 24 to improve to 6-1.

    Softball

    Chloe Brown homered twice as Andover held off Coon Rapids 9-7 April 30 to improve to 9-1 and remain in a three-way tie atop the Northwest Suburban Conference with Spring Lake Park and Rogers. Kaelyn Polzin also homered for the Huskies, Morgan Kostecka collected three hits, Joanne Bro and Maia Johnson added two hits apiece, and Megan Surgenor scored three runs. Coon Rapids swept a pair of games in Duluth April 26-27, winning 17-7 over Duluth East and 22-13 over Duluth Denfeld. Versus East, Laila Meyer, Chloe Christie, Pacey Olson and Ryanne Mellum each had two hits, Myah Ruddy and Sophia Bauck drove in three runs apiece, and Bella Fowler had a hit and three walks. Ruddy added four hits and four RBIs against Denfeld, while Mellum homered. Spring Lake Park defeated Centennial 5-2 April 30 to also improve to 6-1 in NWSC play.

    Blaine shut out Totino-Grace 12-0 April 25 and is now 8-4 on the season. Sarah Kline threw a one-hit shutout, striking out seven, and also drove in three runs at the plate. Marin Aman added two hits and two RBIs, Ellianna Beckman drove in two, and Emmie Sylvia-Cochran, Ellianna Swenson and Hailey Hlavinka scored two runs apiece.

    St. Francis earned an 8-2 win over Elk River April 29 to improve to 8-2 on the season. Myana Kiser earned the complete-game win, striking out 10. Picking up two hits apiece were Abby Keding, Alexa Skogquist, Emerson Markas, Kara Schwintek and Sydney Borchert.

    Alayna Spiess struck out 10 batters in four shutout innings as PACT shut out Northern Lakes 10-0 April 24. Madison Whitby and Ella Ling each knocked in three runs, while Audri Franklin, Alie Gerhard, June Tessum and Spiess scored two runs apiece.

    Boys lacrosse

    Blaine collected a 15-6 win over Spring Lake Park/Coon Rapids April 29. Mark Radtke scored four goals for the Bengals, with three goals apiece by Steven Axelrod and Robert Cruikshank, two goals and six assists by Alex Crane, and 11 saves by goalie Rylan Dickenson. Toby Tranby scored three goals for SLP/CR.

    Cole Jensen, Kaleb Weikel and Rocko Gorowsky scored two goals apiece, and Luke Babineau made 10 saves as Andover earned an 8-4 win over Anoka April 24. Ethan Massmann scored twice for Anoka.

    Girls lacrosse

    Brooklyn Hedberg tallied five goals to help lead Blaine to a 14-9 win against Spring Lake Park April 24. Hope Moore and Cierra Ledeen added three goals apiece, Allison Schulthorp scored twice, and goalie Olive Heugel made 19 saves. Sophie Shimabukuro scored six goals for the Panthers. SLP came back with a 17-5 win against Coon Rapids April 29. Grace Schmidt scored five goals, Eva Taute scored four goals, Olivia Lohrke scored three goals, and Grace Mitties and Peyton Scandrett both scored twice, while Jane Romaker made seven saves.

    After being tied at halftime, Andover came through with a strong second half push to earn a 13-6 win against Anoka April 24, powered by Merrill Delich with eight goals and three assists. Isabel Mika and Eden Lenzmeier added two goals apiece. Jayla Tonna scored three goals for the Tornadoes.

    Grace Kruse scored five goals as Totino-Grace/St. Anthony Village earned an 11-10 win over Rogers April 29.

    Columbia Heights earned an 11-4 win over Minneapolis April 26.

    Boys tennis

    Blaine rolled to 12-1 on the season with a 7-0 shutout over Centennial April 30. The Bengals only dropped six games in four singles matches, with wins by Grayson Dunigan, Logan Lundseth, Peter Andrews and Jamie Chamu. Winning in doubles were the duos of Griffin Dunigan/A.J. Fedor, Wyatt Gunderson/Noah Meyers, and Isaac Stahl/Franklin Loo.

    Coon Rapids captured a pair of 6-1 non-conference wins over Waconia and Delano April 29, improving to 11-4 on the year.

    Spring Lake Park earned a 6-1 win against Park Center April 30. The Panthers swept doubles action, with wins by Benjamin Youngbauer/Evan Mayne, Anders Hanson/Henry Holm, and David Sandvik/Adam Stewart. Winning in singles play were Lucas Clauson, Tanner Hunt and Sam Pearl. Andover earned a 5-2 win against Spring Lake Park April 25.

    Anoka picked up a 6-1 win over Totino-Grace April 25.

    Columbia Heights earned a 6-1 win over Bloomington Kennedy April 24.

    Boys golf

    Spring Lake Park’s Jake Birdwell and Austin Roloff were co-medalists with rounds of 73 as the Panthers won the Chaska Invite April 29. Chase Birdwell finished eighth with a 76.

    Girls golf

    Totino-Grace finished as the runner-up, Spring Lake Park earned sixth and Blaine earned eighth at the Elk River Dave Bleyhl Invite April 30. SLP’s Lea Vrabec earned 10th overall.
