    Cooper track and field battles at Fridley and Columbia Heights

    Cooper track and field stayed busy despite having their home invite postponed by weather on April 16. The Hawks traveled to the Fridley meet on April 18 and Columbia Heights meet on April 23.

    Fridley Meet

    Cooper took part in the Fridley meet on April 18, facing off against Fridley, Holy Angels, Kennedy, Columbia Height, and Visitation. Cooper took fourth place in boys varsity and sixth in girls varsity.

    Tacarie Siner and Milo Athias Finn finished first and second in the boys 100-meter dash with times of 12.29 and 12.40 seconds. Kelvin Kallon was close behind in fifth with a time of 12.83. Akram Bahri and Ansumana Fofana also earned third and fourth in the 200 meters with times of 26.16 and 26.22. Paris Beasley was Cooper’s top finisher in the boys 400 meters, earning 13th with a time of 1:09.94.

    Andrew Brooks earned 14th in the 800 meters and 12th in the 1600 meters, while Zane Halstead earned 15th and 14th in the same races.

    Malik Williams led Cooper in the 110-meter hurdles, earning second with a time of 19.18. Cooper boys earned third in the 4x100 relay with a time of 52.24, which was the Hawks’ best relay finish.

    Attoria McDonald earned first for Cooper in the girls 100-meter hurdles with an impressive time of 18.90. Ajionna Jones was Cooper’s top finisher in the girls 100 meters, earning fourth with a time of 14.54. Virginia Smit was up next in eighth with a time of 15.27.

    Jones also earned fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 31.41. Amariyona Logan earned sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:23.80.

    Savion Gayden, Christian Astorga, and Aaron Giguere earned third through fifth in boys shot put respectively. Gayden threw for 34-07. Astorga had Cooper’s best boys discus finish, earning sixth with a distance of 89-06.

    Avantay Bell reached the 5-5 mark in boys high jump to earn third place, while Manshonh Grupee and Armonn Burns earned 6-9 and 4-9 marks in boys pole vault to take first and second as the only participants.

    Bell also earned fifth in triple jump with a mark of 36-11. Lyfe Martin reached 19-1 in boys long jump, taking fifth place.

    A’ahmariel McKenzie was a notable finisher for Cooper in the field, earning seventh in the girls long jump with a mark of 13-08.

    Columbia Heights Meet

    The Hawks stayed busy, taking part in the Columbia Heights meet last week on April 23. Columbia Heights, DeLaSalle, and Visitation all took part. Cooper took fourth in girls varsity and tied DeLaSalle with 189.5 points for first in boys varsity.

    Siner continued a strong month with a first-place finish in the boys 100 meters at Columbia Heights, earning a time of 11.67. Kallon was next up in fourth. Finn and Sinner earned first and second in the 200 meters with times of 24.68 and 25.28 respectively. Akram Bahri earned second in the 200 before earning second in the 400 meters.

    Williams took fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.31 and finished the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.60. Finn earned fifth in the 800 meters. Cooper A relay team earned second in the 4x100 with a time of 44.91, while the B relay took fourth.

    Smit took third in the girls 100 meters with a time of 14.20, while McDonald earned sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 30.93. McDonald earned another impressive finish in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing second with a time of 18.45.

    The Cooper A girls relay team earned first in the 4x100 with a time of 55.33, while the B relay team earned third with a time of 57.79.

    Gayden took second in the boys shot put with a mark of 36-2. He also placed first in boys discus with a mark of 101-10. Bell once again took third in the high jump, reaching 5-2. Grupee and Burns earned second and third in boys pole vault, while Rassan Alexander placed first in the boys long and triple jump with scores of 17-05 and 41-01, respectively.

    Folake Oluseri earned fifth in girls shot put with a mark of 22-2 and seventh in girls discus with a mark of 60-0. Amy Diouf earned sixth in discus with a mark of 65-0. Princess Nyarkoh was Cooper’s top finisher in the girls long jump, reaching 13-1.

    Cooper track and field’s next meet will come the following week on April 30, when they take part in the Visitation Invite
