FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The Fresno Chaffee Zoo announced the power has been restored early Thursday morning after an outage Wednesday.

Powerlines were down on Highway 99 in Fresno prompting the power outage in nearby areas, including the Zoo, according to officials.

Officers with CHP say northbound and southbound of Highway 99 between Olive and Belmont Avenues were shut down on Wednesday around 8:30 p.m. due to powerlines across all lanes of the freeway.

The zoo sent a statement ensuring the public that all animals were fine and cared for while the issue was resolved.

The Zoo will open as normal at its regular time of 9 a.m.
