Vance Walberg would like Clovis West to remove the interim tag on Tyrone Jackson.

Walberg, who was introduced as the Fresno State men’s basketball coach Friday, said he is a believer in Jackson.

To him, it’s a no-brainer that Jackson should get the job.

“He was in the system for the last eight years for me,” Walberg said Friday. “He’s as good as they come. I know the kids really want him to be the coach and I’m hoping that he gets it. I really am. I think he would do great things there.”

Jackson said he’s excited that Walberg finally gets a chance to coach Fresno State.

He explained that “he’s been working so hard his whole career” and “wanted this for a long time.”

Just like how he wants to be the next Clovis West coach on a full-time basis.

“That’s my goal,” he said. “It’s a home thing for me. I’ve attended elementary school, junior high and played there in high school. A lot of people in the community have given a lot to me and I just want to give back to the community.”

As far as his selling point to Clovis West, Jackson didn’t hesitate to give a precise answer.

“It’s my home,” he said.

“I’m very passionate about it because I put a lot of sweat into it. I just want to see the continue the foundation he laid. I don’t want to slow down. That’s the main purpose of me learning from him and him preparing me for this moment.”
