CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — State Representative Frank Burns (D-Cambria) announced a $300,000 grant for Franklin Borough, which will go towards repaving three main roads.

The grant was awarded after Sharon Lydic, one of the borough’s three council members, attended one of Burns’s grant writing and application seminars. She said she was inspired by the seminar, enough to reach out to Burns for help.

“We had no idea we could actually ask for grants and get them,” Lydic said. “Frank had people there from Department of Community and Economic Development, the Department of Transportation and state agencies that were pretty high up on the scale. They had booklets. We don’t have enough money for matching funds, but found out there were these Local Share Account grants and those don’t need matching funds.”

The primary goal of the funding is to repave the main roads. Lydic said that anything left over will go towards improving lighting and the sidewalks in the borough.
