This weekend at the Mount Desert Island High School there will be thunder, laughter, tears, enslavement and release, true love found, treacherous deeds, charms and curses revealed, and that will be just in the course of one 40-minute play. What else is in store is anybody’s guess, but it’s bound to be equally thrilling. The 2004 Eastern Maine Regional Drama Festival is returning to the Higgins-Demas Theater on March 5-6. Over the course of two days there will be eight different performances, all under the control of high school students. Each group will be critiqued by three judges. In between sessions, volunteers will conduct workshops with titles like “Getting into Character,” “Theater Tech” and “improvisation.”

BAR HARBOR — It’s been a busy month for our talented high school and middle school students with the Maine State Drama Festival Regionals held this weekend at Ellsworth High School and the Show Choir District Competitions performed at Mount Desert Island High School this Thursday, Feb. 29 starting at 4:30 p.m. It has been a struggle post pandemic for many Maine schools to get their music programs up and running again, but three show choirs, representing five schools, will be on stage tonight.

National Fisherman, PenBay Pilot, The Maritime Executive, Mainebiz and other media reported that the University of Maine provided input on the state’s plans for developing a port facility to support the floating offshore wind industry in Maine. Reports also noted that the state’s proposed Floating Offshore Wind Research Array is expected to include 10–12 turbines on semi-submersible floating concrete platforms designed by UMaine’s Advanced Structures and Composite Center.
