Popular movie theater shutters permanently in Lehigh County
A popular movie theater is no longer in operation in Hanover Township, Lehigh County. AMC Classic Allentown 16, 1700 Catasauqua Road, was listed Monday morning as permanently closed on Google. No one answered the phone at the theater and no showings were being listed Monday. An AMC spokesperson also didn’t immediately return a request for more information.

Lehigh County Coroner’s Office becomes 1st in Pa. to get national accreditation
The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office is the first coroner’s office in Pennsylvania to receive an accreditation from the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME). Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio announced last week his office has been fully accredited by the association, effective May 2024 through May 2028. The recognition followed a rigorous inspection of the forensic center and review of all office procedures and policies, Buglio said.

Some local police departments struggling with staffing, some see increase in resignations
EASTON, Pa. - Police departments are finally seeing recruitment trends heading in the right direction. A new study shows new hires are up across the country for the first time in four years. Staffing levels dropped more than 5% across the country since 2020, according to the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), which conducted the study, and the Richland Township Police Department was a part of that trend.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Allentown School District held a budget forum Tuesday night at Hays Elementary School. During a finance committee meeting April 11, the district presented a preliminary $436 million spending plan for the 2024-25 school year. The top expenditures include salaries comprising 34% of the budget, 26% spent on benefits to staff members, 18% allocated to charter schools, other expenses constituting 16% and debt payments occupying 6%.
