"I would like, if I may, to take you on a strange journey"... to Fort Thomas. That's where church officials asked university students to remove "inappropriate" images taken outside the Saint Thomas Parish ahead of an annual production of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," a 1975 film famous for its challenging depictions of sexuality and gender. Students from Northern Kentucky University posed "in various stages of undress" on the steps of Saint Thomas Parish without its knowledge or permission, according to an Oct. 30 statement from the church. "Saint Thomas is a sacred place of worship," Rev. Ross Kelsch said in the statement, "and we expect our church and its grounds to be treated with dignity and respect." The photos were taken down after Northern Kentucky University President Cady Short-Thompson apologized to the church, according to a university statement. "Our focus is on using this as a teachable moment about respecting community spaces," the university wrote. Cloverlick Creek Dam, a 500-ton concrete structure in Bethel, is scheduled for removal later this month. The village built it in 1941 to provide a drinking water reservoir. Mayor Jay Noble of Bethel said the 2006 costs for repairs and maintenance of the dam and pump house had become too costly for the village to afford. With alternate sources of water available, the decision was made to shut down the pump station and purchase water from the Tate-Monroe Water Association. Mayor Noble said the dam has become a potential public safety hazard and a liability for the village.
