FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – There is something to be said for going out on top – and that’s just what Mark Pixley is doing at Bishop Luers, as Pixley has stepped down as the girls head basketball coach just months after leading the Knights to the 2A state title.

Mary Hathaway, a Bishop Luers alum, has spent the last ten years as an assistant under Pixley. She has been tabbed to lead the Knights program going forward as the new head coach.

In 10 years under Pixley the Knights went 130-107. That includes a 20-6 mark this past season that saw Luers win the program’s seventh state title.

Pixley will stay on at Luers as the head girls golf coach.

In a statement released by the school, Pixley had this to say:

“Time to pass the ball or should I say seat to my 10-year assistant coach Mary Hathaway. She is going to do great things with the Luers Girls’ Basketball program. I was blessed to coach at such a great school and basketball program for the past 10 years.

What I will remember the most is all the laughs I had with my players throughout the years at practices and games. We always made basketball fun. Throughout my 10 years we had a lot of great wins and few tough losses, but we always played the game the right way. Adding the 7th State Championship to the Luers Girls Basketball program this year, seems like a perfect ending to a great 10 years at the helm.”
