FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — The Water Lantern Festival was in Fort Wayne for the second year in a row Saturday evening.

It was held at the Ivan Lebamoff Reservoir Park.

It’s a nationwide event that aims to foster healing, reflection, love and more.

People of all ages were there to enjoy food, games, live music, and shopping vendors.

They got to decorate their own water lantern and release it into the water.

People got really creative. There were cartoon-themed lanterns, money-themed lanterns and everything else in between; however, some took a deeper approach by dedicating the project to a loved one.

“So, we leave it pretty open to interpretation, whether they want to use it as a memorial or a celebration or make a wish or say something for the future. It’s kind of up to whatever you want to put on it. And I think that’s what makes it so special,” event coordinator, Sydney Head, said.

Organizers said the lanterns are crafted from sustainable materials and they make sure to clean up everything and pull lanterns from out the water at the end.
