Where are this spring's high school football scrimmages?

We have a little more than three months left separating us from the high school football 2024 season opener on Aug. 23.

On that night, Fort Walton Beach is hosting Tate, Choctaw is traveling to Gulf Shores, Crestview welcomes Milton, Navarre travels to Pensacola Catholic, Niceville hosts South Sumter, South Walton travels to Gulf Breeze and more. But before then, we have spring football games to look forward to.

And the story lines are abundant surrounding those games.

For instance, how will Blake Peters and Choctaw's backfield look in the wake of the Big Green's losses on offense? Another focus will be Niceville's offense, which has a new-look backfield and some questions looming after last year's struggles. South Walton and Freeport will give us an early glimpse of District 1-2A and a final adieu to the Hawks Nest, while the Garrett Bagley era begins at Pace behind a Connor Mathews-led offense.

Meanwhile, Walton and Wells Bettenhausen face a good barometer against much-larger Crestview, which last we saw was defeating Fort Walton Beach to close a disappointing 2023.

But before we get to the fall, we'll get one good look on the field at area teams in spring scrimmages and jamborees. Here's a schedule of those upcoming contests.

Niceville vs. Escambia, Monday at 6 p.m.

Navarre at Pace, Friday at 7 p.m.

Choctaw at Bozeman HS vs. Florida High and Mosley, Friday at 7 p.m.

South Walton vs. Freeport , Friday at 7 p.m.

FWB vs. Pensacola, Friday at 7 p.m.

Walton vs. Crestview , May 23 at 7 p.m.
