Who owns Flavor BBQ?

Temple "Mr. Flavor" Spencer runs the restaurant with his wife, Lakisha, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. (Vivian) Lawrence. Spencer, who has been cooking for 25 years, has won four pit boss championships. This is his second Flavor BBQ location. The first restaurant he opened four years ago in Conyers, G e orgia , won two state championships in 2022 and 2023.

What kind of restaurant is Flavor BBQ?

"Back home," said Spencer, who prepares everything from scratch, "just like grandma," the menu says.

When he expands to include breakfast soon, he'll serve traditional morning fare, but he'll also pair it with barbecue favorites for a more "exotic" menu. Think eggs and ribs or deep-fried grits with sausage gravy.

Renovations are underway to expand the restaurant into the adjacent storefront, which will be a social gathering spot for live performances, including jazz music and spoken word. Blues music is piped to the outside cafe tables and picnic tables, where smokers pump intoxicating aromas into the air.

Inside seating includes a bar, tables and high-tops. There's also DoorDash takeout.

What’s on the Flavor BBQ menu?

Spencer will be tweaking and expanding the menu, which currently includes full dinners that come with two sides and snack sizes that come with one side.

Smoked meats: turkey, pork ribs (bone, slab and tips), half-chicken, beef brisket, burnt ends, oxtails, fried pork chop, chicken wings, smoked sausage

Seafood: shrimp, catfish, whiting, flounder, red snapper

Sandwiches: hamburgers, pork chop, beef brisket, pulled pork, chicken

Sides: yams, fried okra, onion rings, fries, dirty rice, green beans, baked beans, collard greens, mac & cheese, fried green tomato, corn on the cob, deep fried corn on the cob, mashed potato with chicken pepper gravy

Desserts: Pecan pie, sweet potato pie, carrot cake, red velvet cake
