Canton city council set to vote on mixed-use building plan
Canton leaders are scheduled to decide next month whether to allow a developer to bring a four-story mixed-use building to the downtown area. On Thursday, the Canton City Council held a public hearing to discuss a request from ForrPlaces Development LLC for a conditional use permit to build multifamily residential as part of a proposed mixed-use development at 261 E. Main St. in downtown Canton. The 0.212-acre property is currently a gravel lot between The Dry Social and Providence Insurance, across from Mamma Onesta’s Italian Restaurant. The applicant is looking to transform this property into a four-story building with street-level retail, residential and a parking garage. The garage would have 11 spaces, including one Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant space. The city council is scheduled to vote on this request July 2. If approved, the building would feature 5,000 square feet of commercial space (retail and/or restaurant) at the street level, 15,000 square feet of residential space consisting of two floors of residential units and one floor of rooftop penthouse units. There would a total of 10 two-bedroom residential units, according to city documents. The conditional use permit is required to build the multi-family residential component of the proposed mixed-use building.
