FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — After announcing changes to gate times back in December, Fort Leonard Wood staff decided to reopen the South Gate for 24 hours a day, seven hours a week.

According to the U.S. Army Fort Leonard Wood Facebook page, staff has decided to have the South Gate open 24/7 and the West Gate to be open from 4:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. beginning on May 6. The hours of operation for the North and East Gate will not change.

The decision comes after Fort Leonard Wood staff conducted a 60-day assessment of gate operations.

“I am proud of the tremendous work our Garrison team conducted during the 60-day assessment on the changes to the South and West gates,” said Maj. Gen. Chris Beck. “The team and I understood the concerns that were raised, we listened, and we worked diligently to analyze new technology and personnel procedures, which has led to adjustments at the South and West gates based on the efficiencies gained, additional resources that are now available, and our ability to make these adjustments while still reducing military manpower at the gates. We will continue to assess and analyze the effectiveness of our gate operations while ensuring the safety and security of all those who live, work and visit Fort Leonard Wood.”

In December 2023, Ford Leonard Wood said that they would make changes to gate hours , with the South Gate being open from 4:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and the West Gate being open from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
