Ponca City to host playoff game
Ponca City’s Sullins Stadium will be the site of a Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association football playoff game Friday night. Northeastern St. drops out of UNK’s conference for football only
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Changes are coming to football in UNK's conference. The MIAA announced Monday that it approved Northeastern State's request to play football as a Division ll independent. The RiverHawks have won just two total games over the past two seasons, both against Lincoln University - a school that is exiting the conference. UNK has beaten NSU six straight times. Northeastern State, which is in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, will remain in the MIAA for its other nine sports.
Ada embracing challenge against Wagoner in 4A semifinals
ADA, Okla. (KTEN) - Ada players and coaches said before the season, they had state championship expectations. Now, the Cougars find themselves just one win away from the 4A state title game as they get ready to face Wagoner on Friday. The Bulldogs are currently undefeated and ended Ada's season in the first round of the playoff last year, so head coach Brad O'Steen and players know it will be a challenge but it is one the Cougars are embracing.

Wagoner leaned heavily on its rushing attack as the Bulldogs finished with 244 yards on 39 attempts to secure its 20th straight win and move on to the semifinals. The Bulldogs (12-0) got on the board first in the second quarter via a 27-yard run from Trenton Edwards with 7:28 remaining in the half. After halftime, Kale Charboneau found Trenton Edwards for a 28-yard scoring toss to go up 14-0 in the third. Logan Bloxson added a 23-yard field goal, Bryce Steele had a one-yard touchdown run and DeJay Pierce closed out the game with a 22-yard scamper with 2:17 left. Charboneau finished 9-of-16 for 107 yards through the air with an interception, while also rushing for 118 yards on 20 carries. Trenton Edwards added 54 yards on the ground and Witt Edwards led all receivers with four catches for 35 yards. He also had an interception on defense while University of Oklahoma commit Alex Shieldnight recorded a quarterback sack and caught one pass for 20 yards.

Eagles Push NCAA II NSU To The Brink

Tahlequah, Okla. – Northeastern State University escaped with a narrow 72-70 win Monday night as the Eagles pushed the NCAA II Riverhawks to the brink in Tahlequah. The Eagles impressive showing was fueled by an outstanding shooting night and a dominate performance on the boards. The Eagles also held the lead for well over half of the game. The Eagles outshot the Riverhawks 46 percent from the field to 41 percent. The Eagles also drilled 12-of-26 (46%) from the three-point line, while NSU hit 8-of-26. At the end of the game, the Eagles owned a 39-28 rebound advantage. The Eagles held a 36-33 halftime lead behind a balanced scoring output from both the outside and inside. The game went back-and-forth in the second half and the Eagles responded to every Northeastern threat. Justice Marmara drilled a three-pointer at the three-minute mark to give the Eagles a 64-63 lead. Marmara would hit another three, this time from NBA range, to give the Eagles a 70-69 advantage with ten seconds remaining in the game. But the Riverhawks executed a play with just six ticks left to go ahead. The Eagles did have the last possession, but couldn't convert. Tim Eldridge and Marmara each had 17 points to lead the Eagles.
