DES MOINES, Iowa — Severe thunderstorms that pushed through central Iowa early Friday morning have left thousands of people without power.

Utility crews are working to get the power back on for customers across the state.

As of 11:30 a.m. MidAmerican Energy was reporting an outage for more than 13,900 customers in the Des Moines metro. More than 2,300 customers in Fort Dodge are also without electricity because of an outage.

MidAmerican says crews will respond to assess the damage and work to restore service as soon as it is safe to do so.

Alliant Energy is reporting more than 1,900 customers affected by storm-related outages in central Iowa.
