    Briefs: boys hockey, girls basketball end season at sections

    Rangers boys hockey

    Following an up-and-down campaign, the Forest Lake boys hockey season ended in the first round of the 7AA quarterfinals in a matchup with Rock Ridge on the road. The Rangers rallied back after being down 3-1 in the opening frame to tie it back up at 3-3 before the game’s conclusion. The boys ultimately fell by a final score of 4-3 in a game that went to a total of four overtime periods before Rock Ridge tallied its final goal. Goals were scored by junior Mason Johnsen in the first, sophomore Ryder Siedow midway through the second period, and senior Caden Speidel in the third. The team ends its season with a 11-14-1 record on the season.

    Rangers girls basketball

    The Forest Lake girls basketball team ended its regular season winning four of its last five games to finish off with an overall record of 14-11. The girls earned three-straight road wins against tough competitors Anoka, Woodbury and Mounds View on Feb. 5, Feb. 9 and Feb. 13, respectively. The squad’s final game resulted in a 63-50 loss to East Ridge on Wednesday, Feb. 21. The No. 5-seeded Rangers prepared for their Section 7AAAA quarterfinal matchup against fourth-seeded Blaine on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. at Blaine High School, in a game held after press time.
