FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCBD)- Skip Fink won a special election Tuesday to fill an open Folly Beach City Council seat.

Unofficial results from the Charleston County Board of Elections show Fink earned 553 votes while Jody Lynn Rogers earned 415 votes in the April 23 election.

Fink, a retired U.S. Marine Corps colonel, previously served nine years on the Folly Beach Design Review Board, including three years as chairman.

He campaigned on a commitment to balance the city’s growth with maintaining its charm. He pledged to work to enhance emergency services, mitigate traffic congestion, promote “responsible” development, increase programs and support services for older adults, tackle beach erosion, and address flooding.

“My vision for Folly Beach is much like a lighthouse, a steadfast beacon guiding ships through changing tides,” Fink’s campaign website states. “Our beloved town is that ship, rich in character and history, yet facing the winds of change. Just as a lighthouse stands resilient, illuminating the way forward, I am to strike a harmonious balance between preserving the unique essence of our community and embracing the future’s needs.”

Fink graduated from the University of Florida, holds a master’s degree in public administration from Auburn University, and a graduate degree from Marine Corps University. He and his wife have lived on Folly Beach for just over a decade.

He will serve the remainder of retiring Councilman Eddie Ellis’ term which expires in November 2025.
