FLOSSMOOR, Ill. — A young entrepreneur with sensory processing disorder has a new clothing line that is functional and inspirational.

Malachi Rucker said people would use autism as an insult and he was tired of it.

1:32:48 I was thinking there’s a lot of people who are neurodivergent or have autism and I was thinking what if I make clothing for people like that?” Rucker said.

Rucker founded Divergent Clothing Company, catered to people with sensory processing divergences with the full support of his parents

“He said you know what mom I want to reclaim the negative things people are saying about me, one shirt undefined, not typical. He wants people to know it’s ok to be different and we should celebrate our differences,” his mother Nikki Williams said.

His clothing differs from others due to the patent-pending fashion that is functional with premium fabrics.

It’s been a labor of love for more than a year with the goal to expand.

“We’ll take it as far as the sky will let it go,” his mother said.

Giving everyone access to his clothing and the messages behind it, standing against bullying — wrapped up in acceptance.

“You’re not alone and there’s things that can help you,” Rucker said.
