Hot weekend, big plans at Old Threshers Reunion
MOUNT PLEASANT — This year’s Old Threshers Reunion got off to a hot start. Temperatures on Friday and Saturday rose into the 90s with heat-index values over 100 degrees. On Sunday the temperature dropped into the 80s. In spite of the weather, Old Threshers fans still turned out to take in the demonstrations and entertainment offered at the annual reunion. On Friday, Dan Davis, of Bentonville, Arkansas, took in the parade of tractors and steam engines in spite of the day’s heat during the daily Cavalcade of Power parade at noon. Davis, who grew up in Fairfield, returns to Iowa every summer, attending the State Fair and Old Threshers Reunion in alternating years. Davis said the collection of machinery on display at the reunion kept him coming back. “I love the old tractors, and I love the engineering of some of the steam engines,” Davis said. While many like Davis return year after year to view their favorites, this year’s festival included signs promoting future additions to the reunion’s grounds. A concrete foundation pad has been poured for a craft building in the Log Village area. When completed the building will house local artisans exhibiting their wares during the reunion.

Comfortable Days Ahead
OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - Relief is on the way. After a dangerous heat wave, drier air moves in Sunday and Labor Day Monday, temperatures will drop to the low and mid-80s. It’ll feel noticeably more comfortable with lower humidity levels. However, don’t get too used to it. Hot weather returns Tuesday and Wednesday with highs climbing back near 90 degrees and heat indices approaching 100. There’s also a slight chance of storms Tuesday and Wednesday as conditions become unstable. The good news is the humidity won’t be as oppressive as what we just experienced. More comfortable weather arrives late next week with mostly sunny skies and highs settling back into the low and mid-80s through the weekend.
